Service Description
Turn your letters into art with brush markers and a little practice. In this 90 minute class, you will learn the basic strokes that make up brush-style calligraphy. We’ll put those strokes together to make a modern-style alphabet. No experience required, and all materials will be provided. You will go home with a brush pen to keep practicing! Students will become comfortable with using a brush pen and learn the basic components of letterforms, how to combine them into letters, and practice putting letters together in words. They’ll leave with the basics to keep exploring and practicing at home. Target Audience / Skill Level: Beginner Materials Provided by Instructor: Workbook and brush pen Materials Students Need to Bring: None - all provided About the Instructor: Sara Wilkes is a Redmond-based artist who creates colorful, encouraging art, primarily through calligraphy and lettering. She takes inspiration from the words around her and subscribes to the art philosophy of Sister Corita Kent: “I just make things I like bigger.” She has studied calligraphy actively since 2017 as a member of several calligraphy guilds, and currently serves on the board for The Society for Calligraphy and Handwriting locally. Her practice includes traditional pen and ink work, as well as digital calligraphy, illustration, and papercraft.
